Abstract Participation is open to everybody - beginner or professional, foreigner or not. There are different categories (single and teams). The World Champion is elected from the men resp. women category. Goldpanning is performed in hand made pools. Participants starts in heats consiting of 30 persons. Each competitor of the heat gets the same amount of sand/gravel mixture (approx. 15 to 20 kg). There is the same amount of gold hidden in the sand per heat. Only the board of judges knows the exact amount. The competitor has to pan out the gold flakes in the fastest time possible. For each gold flake lost 5 minutes of penalty will be given. The goldpanner has to put the gold flakes in a vial and hand this out to the judges. The judges compile the result lists. According to the number of participants registered the competitors have to qualify through quarter- and semifinals to reach the finals. The competitors get their gold back after the competition together with a certificat. The following rules compiled by the WGA (World Goldpanning Association) are applicable:
